A local to Alaska, Dr. Jade Ekle attended the University of Tampa receiving his Bachelor’s degree in Allied Health and Exercise Science and a Minor in Psychology. After graduating cum laude, he attended the University of Saint Augustine for Health Sciences due to its superior reputation in manual therapy, orthopaedics, and manipulation. He graduated with his Doctorate in Physical Therapy and high honors. Immediately following, Dr. Ekle became the clinic director and partner of the world famous Aspen Back & Body Institute in Aspen, Colorado. Aspen Back & Body was the front runner in non-surgical rehab for back problems combining therapies from Physical Therapy, Gyrotonic, Chiropractic, Pilates, Specialized Training, and Vibration Therapy. Clients visited from 45 countries including world leaders, pro athletes, celebrities, and Forbes Fortune 400 families. Simultaneously, he pursued an aggressive continuing education path by achieving certified specialties in Manual Therapy, Orthopaedic Physical Therapy, Strength and Conditioning, and Biomedical Dry Needling. Jade then ventured around the country as a traveling physical therapist, absorbing a tremendous amount of clinical knowledge and expertise before making his final footprint back home to Alaska.

Dr. Ekle has enjoyed his life competing in baseball, wrestling, mixed martial arts, backcountry snowboarding, and he is now the Head Coach of the oldest wrestling club in the valley, the (Mid-Valley Wolves). His inspiration for JADED began as a young boy. Dr. Ekle was raised by his mother who has battled most of her life spent on long-term disability and narcotic pain medication. She was diagnosed early on with Multiple Sclerosis and chronic neck pain and underwent multiple cervical fusion surgeries. Dr. Ekle also has plenty of personal experience with injury. Before the age of 30, Jade has had the misadventure of 4 broken ankles, a dislocated hip, a fractured low back, a torn ACL and MCL in his knee, a broken wrist, multiple shoulder dislocations, a torn rotator cuff, biceps and glenoid labrum, and enough concussions to not remember how many. Jade’s father passed away when he was 3 years old and he was raised without health insurance. He spent most of his childhood with the emergency room as his only access to medical services and now has come to understand the blessing of excellent one-on one, hands on medical care and the privilege of capitalizing on health insurance benefits. Dr. Ekle has utilized these experiences to enhance his philosophies of treatment and his mission at JADED.

There is no question of Dr. Ekle's motivation, inspiration and vision of bringing his elite medical expertise home to real local Alaskan people with a touch of prestige inspired by the rich and famous of Aspen. Dr. Ekle continues to pursue his passion for healing as a Wellness Fitness Coordinator for the Anchorage Fire Department, Central Mat-Su Fire Department, Pioneer Peak International Hotshot Crew, Gannett Glacier Fire Crew, and many of the Alaska Smokejumpers and Forestry Division. Dr. Mayur V. Patel PT, DPT

Doctor of Physical Therapy

Dr. Mayur V. Patel was born in the suburbs of Chicago and raised in the small southern town of Andalusia, Alabama. Growing up, Patel was very keen on helping out at his parent’s motel with maintenance and volunteering in the community as much as he could. His love and passion for helping people in need awoke his interest for pursuing a career in which he could better apply his skills and to meet people from different backgrounds and cultures. Patel soon attended the University of Alabama where he received his undergraduate degree in Exercise and Sports Science. Afterwards, he attended the University of St. Augustine for Health Sciences where he received his Doctorate in Physical Therapy. He received extensive training in advanced orthopedic manual therapy treatment and evaluation, relating to the spine and extremities. At St. Augustine, he had the opportunity to learn from one of the leading nationally recognized manual Physical Therapists, where he also found his drive and motivation to succeed in his career field. Patel worked in Chicago, Colorado, and Arizona. In these diverse locations, he gained experience in orthopedic manual physical therapy relating to the high school and collegiate level athletes, as well as avid hikers and skiers. Patel really enjoyed these work experiences as he not only was able to work and truly experience what it means to be a Doctor of Physical Therapy and help people but also to explore the outdoor hiking and camping scene every chance he got with the locals.

For Patel’s career, future interests include pursuing a specialty in manual therapy, dry needling, and a certification in strength and conditioning. Outside of work, Patel wishes to continue his travels and experience the different cultures and traditions the Alaskan Frontier has to offer. During free time, he loves to be outside hiking, camping, snowboarding, mountain biking, and also wishes to pick up fishing. Patel fell in love with Alaska at first sight of the beautiful mountain ranges, after tasting the fresh world-famous seafood, hiking and ice climbing the local glaciers, dogsledding and snowmachining through the Alaskan alps, and while having the chance to snowboard down the famous Alyeska Ski Resort. Patel was ecstatic to receive an opportunity in Alaska with JADED so that he can learn and perfect his hands-on manual therapy skills from elite clinicians, better the lives of his patients, and to keep exploring all that Alaska has to offer.

His hope for his new role is that he can help patients meet health goals and lead fulfilling lives that include participation in sports and activities that bring them joy. What brings Patel the most joy, from being a Doctor of Physical Therapy, is getting to know his patients and building an empathetic lasting relationship with them which will help him better treat his patients here in Alaska.

Dr. Nathan Kowalczk PT, DPT

Doctor of Physical Therapy

Dr. Nathan Kowalczk is a born and raised Alaskan, growing up right here in Wasilla. As a young athlete, Nathan was introduced to physical therapy when sustaining his own injuries, building the foundation for his career. After graduating from UAA with his BS in Health and Fitness Leadership, he took the somewhat non-traditional route to physical therapy school. Instead, Nathan decided to continue from his internship and train to become an adaptive ski instructor for the Aspen Skiing Company to share his joy of skiing with those with special needs. These experiences further embedded his passion to help others enjoy the activities they love.

While attending the University of Vermont, Dr. Kowalczk adopted the philosophy that a PTs most important tools are their mind, eyes, and hands. This philosophy lead to a strong interest in manual therapy. Nathan expanded his knowledge and joint manipulation skills by pursuing an advanced manipulation course with the Auckland University of Technology in New Zealand. In addition, Nathan is trained in an emerging soft tissue technique termed the “Fascial Distortion Model.” Nathan plans to continue pursuing his interest in manual therapy by seeking speciality certifications in the Graston Technique and dry needling.

Outside of the clinic, Nathan likes to enjoy all Alaska has to offer. He remains active with hiking, biking or joining local adult sport leagues, but that doesn’t mean you won’t see him with a rod in his hand or skis on his feet. Whether it’s on the field, water, or slopes, don’t hesitate to say hi!
